Content (Highlights) from Interviewing Cooper Sherwin, Co-Founder of LinksDAO

-
How has the DAO model helped LinksDAO revolutionize golf?
-
It’s “market research on steroids,” offering “instant feedback” to “test new products.”
-
-
Sherwin’s interest began in Bitcoin, expanded to DAOs.
-
LinksDAO uses NFT membership tokens because it was “the meta” in the crypto world when LinksDAO was founded; if people want to join/leave, they can buy/sell their NFT(s).
-
DAO members communicate on commonwealth, vote on Snapshot.org—the most popular Ethereum blockchain dApp that DAOs use.
-
LinksDAO bought Spey Bay Golf Club and is looking to buy a course in the U.S.—DAO members are about to vote on where it will be!, (for economic reasons) either the midwest or southeast.
-
LinksDAO revitalized Spey Bay Golf Course (Scotland)
-
They hired a top architecture firm to redesign it and made the course fully reversible (to play), which is unique in the golf world.
-
-
Large LinksDAO member gatherings happen pretty regularly.
-
Not “just token-based,” LinksDAO relies on LinksDAO Inc. for legal compliance reasons → joked that laws need to catch up to DAOs!
-
Member votes are still crucial (voting on exact U.S. course location now, vote on logos [such as LinksDAO main logo], course layouts, architectures, golf charities, etc.)
-
-
LinksDAO membership offers exclusive perks, such as easier access to top golf and 400+ non LinksDAO-owned golf courses in the U.S.—I asked about this after taking their website’s quiz and discovering that LinksDAO was partnered with several Long Island courses.
-
These additional exclusive perks are different from what Sherwin and other founders envisioned originally (owning a lot is challenging).
-
There’s a Links “Clubhouse” to schedule “tea time” with reduced prices whenever members want.
-
-
Decentralized golf league for members to post scores, validated on blockchain—members can play and get rewarded for their scores.
-
I mentioned my interest in joining LinksDAO one day.
-
DAOs in the future? We need better regulations to maximize DAOs, especially as technology stands today.

#OwnTheGame
Sick of no role in calling the shots on "your" teams? "#OwnTheGame" throws open the doors to a sports world where fans are owners with votes, not just spectators. Written by a young visionary leading the charge, this electrifying guide demystifies DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) and reveals how they're changing the game forever.
Feel the earth shake as we trace the path from Wall Street's 2008 crash (Chapter 1) to the birth of Bitcoin (Chapter 2) and the rise of Ethereum and DAOs (Chapters 3 & 4). Experience the heart-stopping highs and lows as fan-owned DAOs take on the establishment - the Oakland A's relocation (Introduction), the Krause House's NBA dreams (Chapter 7).
Witness the Ufod Town Miracle: a teenager and his friends, facing a crumbling baseball field, dared to dream. Follow their inspiring story as they employ the power of DAOs to revitalize their community, battling skepticism and bureaucracy along the way (Chapter 12).
"OwnTheGame" also dives into the pulse-pounding stories of LinksDAO's golf haven (Chapter 8) - real fans turning dreams into reality. It cuts through blockchain jargon (Chapter 5), making the tech accessible to everyone. Explore a panorama of DAOs reshaping industries from soccer to sailing (Chapter 8), and learn how major sports leagues like MLB could be revolutionized (Chapter 10). You'll understand smart contracts, tokenomics, and the power of collective governance.
But this isn't just theory. It's your practical roadmap to joining the revolution. Learn how to participate in existing DAOs or launch your own, in sports, business, activism - the possibilities are endless.
"OwnTheGame" isn't just a read, it's an invitation. Whether you bleed your team's colors, dream of a fairer world, or just love the cutting edge, these pages will ignite your passion.
Independent Research Report
The Democratizing DAO Revolution: Fan Power in Sports and Beyond
This research investigates the novel concept of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) and their transformative potential in revolutionizing fan engagement and ownership models across various industries. Driven by a fascination with the intersection of sports, technology, and fan empowerment, this project digs into the real-world impact of DAOs, examining their ability to democratize decision-making, generate innovative revenue streams, and enable involved ownership communities.
Through in-depth case studies of successful DAO initiatives like Krause House, LinksDAO, CityDAO, and Friends With Benefits, the research highlights the tangible benefits of this emerging governance model. It also examines the implications of DAOs for redefining traditional ownership structures across industries, including regulatory uncertainty, governance complexities, and the need to balance community input with professional expertise.
Interviews conducted with DAO founders and leaders, including Michale DePietro (KarateCombat), Jonathan W (Big3 Basketball), Cooper Sherwin (LinksDAO), and Commodore (KraiseHouse), provide valuable insights.
By combining qualitative and quantitative data analysis, this project offers a unique perspective on the future of DAOs and their potential to reshape industries by increasing fan participation, enabling new revenue models, and fostering more equitable ownership structures.

About

It wasn't in a lecture hall or a textbook that sparked my blockchain obsession. It was late one evening in 2022, sitting at my desk littered with sports memorabilia, when I stumbled upon a tweet about a group of passionate fans attempting the unthinkable: buying an NBA team through a DAO they called Krause House. As captain of my school's baseball and squash teams, the idea of fans actively shaping a team's future resonated deeply. This unexpected spark ignited a passion that continues to drive me today.
Driven by this newfound passion, I dove headfirst into the world of DAOs. I devoured everything from articles and podcasts to whitepapers and real-world case studies like SailGP and LinksDAO. My love for sports analytics, honed by following the Mets, Giants, Knicks, and tennis, intersected perfectly with blockchain's data-driven potential. I envisioned a future where the passion of fans could be harnessed through technology to create more democratic and engaging sports experiences
In 2023, fueled by this excitement, I began to research via a project titled "Fan Power Unleashed: How Sports DAOs are Democratizing Ownership and Fan Participation." I analyzed how DAOs were democratizing decision-making, opening new avenues for investment, and fostering deeper fan connections. My research wasn't just theoretical; it was a deep dive into the practical implications of this technology for the sports industry I'm so passionate about. I wanted to understand not just the "how" of DAOs, but the "why" – why they mattered, why they had the potential to reshape the sports landscape, and why they could create more inclusive and engaging experiences for fans.
The story of DAOs isn't just about technology; it's about people. It's about fans becoming owners who can vote on all key decisions, communities coming together to drive change, and the birth of a new era of decentralized power. My book and research is a roadmap to a world where everyone has the opportunity to truly "#OwnTheGame".
